The European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) are pleased to invite you to the European launch event of the Meteosat Third Generation Imager-1.
The satellite, scheduled for launch on an Ariane 5 rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana on 13 December 2022, is the first of the new Meteosat Third Generation designed to revolutionise weather forecasting in Europe.
The launch event takes place on 13 December from 18:00 CET at ESA’s European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), The Netherlands.
MTG-I1 will provide crucial insights for the early detection and prediction of fast-developing severe storms, weather forecasting and climate monitoring.
The satellite will carry two completely new instruments: Europe’s first Lightning Imager and a Flexible Combined Imager.
Meteosat Third Generation, one of the most complex and innovative satellite systems ever built, will provide improved critical data for weather forecasting from geostationary orbit for the next two decades.
