CubeSat Workshop Pre-Questionnaire
Contact Details
The aim of this questionnaire is to get a better understanding of the state of CubeSat propulsion in Europe and the needs of entities involved in this field.
The results will not be used for ESA procurement selection purposes.
Section 1 below includes 5 key questions that are important to achieve the aim noted above.
Section 2 provides a more detailed break-down of the questions.
Either section 1 or section 2 can be completed. Please provide as much detail as possible.

Section 1 - Key Questions

I. What is your organisation’s role in CubeSat propulsion (e.g. propulsion component developer/producer, propulsion system developer/producer, CubeSat developer, CubeSat operator, etc.)

II. What is your organisations level of experience with CubeSat propulsion (e.g. number of components produced, number of prop systems produced or purchased, number of prop systems or CubeSats launched, etc.)

III. What requirements / standards have you imposed or have been imposed on you for producing CubeSat propulsion equipment or systems (e.g. none, ECSS, launch authority requirements, internal requirements, etc.)

IV. What do you believe is appropriate and necessary in terms of requirements / standards for CubeSat propulsion?

V. What are your capabilities and needs for CubeSat propulsion verification / testing?

Please provide specification sheets for the products your organisation develops/produces.

Section 2 - Detailed Questions
Propulsion Products & Constellations Development & Qualification

1. Could you tell us whether your organisation has already launched a CubeSat with a Propulsion System? If so, how many, when and which Propulsion Capabilities did they have?

2. How many CubeSats/Constellations is your organisation planning to launch with Propulsion by 2026? And by 2030? And with what kind of planned propulsion Capabilities?

3. For the development and qualification of the above mentioned CubeSats, how many units is your organisation planning to test as engineering models, development units, qualification units and lot/acceptance test units in case of Constellations?

Existing and needed Test Capabilities

Please select and or comment with respect to all test capabilities already present in your organization and those that are yet not present but might be needed in the future for both development and qualification of both the entire CubeSat and Propulsion Subsystem. Additionally, some of these capabilities could be covered by ESA in the future CubeSat Test Facility. Therefore, please indicate those capabilities you might require in the future even though you might not have a plan to cover them in-house.

Safety Questions

Please answer the following questions:

1. Does your organisation have a SAFETY OFFICER?

2. Has your organisation performed a FMECA of your system?

3. Does your organisation have a Quality/PA engineer?

4. Has your organisation already obtained a launch safety certification for your product?

4a. If so, by which Launcher?

5. Does your organisation intend to transport your propulsion system pre-loaded?

6. Has your organisation already obtained a certification to transport loaded tanks?

Additional Questions

1. Which level of qualification do your organisation’s customers require?

2. Is your organisation planning to qualify your equipment/subsystem by performing a complete on-ground qualification testing or an In-Orbit-Demonstration? If done by IOD, which ground testing/qualification have you already or will you perform prior to the maiden flight?

3. Do your organisation’s customer require a life-time demonstration of the propulsion subsystem on ground? (Current nominal life-test is set at 1.5 times total propellant throughput)

4. Is your organisation following any ECSS or other standards? If so which one(s)?

5. Would it be beneficial for a dedicated ECSS to be written for CubeSats to allow manufacturers to show compliance to one agreed standard?

6. Is your organisation using an external organisation to complete any of your testing (or any other tasks)? If so, and you can disclose it, please mention which organisation/tasks?

7. Would testing your subsystem integrated on the CubeSat (End-to-End test) offer your product a competitive advantage?

8. What is currently your organisation’s approach to verification of hardware? Is your organisation planning to test equipment, subsystem and spacecraft in different platforms/facility? Together or independently? (i.e. self-contained system, already integrated onto structural elements, co-integration with a prime)

Market Questions

It would also be appreciated if you could also provide the following info on the performance of your propulsion products AND/OR provide a Boucher and/or data sheets from your products? Please click here to download the below Propulsion Performance template.

Please upload the Propulsion Performance sheet

Only 1 document can be uploaded

Does your organisation produce other related equipment such as tanks, valves, electronics, etc? Could you provide a Boucher and/or data sheets?

Would you like this information to be uploaded to the workshop website to have a common repository where it can be access in the internet?
