4th ScyLight Workshop 2021

You are invited to participate in the 2021 – 4th edition of the ScyLight workshop.
This is an annual event for European and Canadian Industries as well as ESA technical experts to showcase the latest developments in the domain of optical and quantum communication technologies under the ScyLight umbrella and beyond. It will be a unique opportunity to present your results and gain an overview of ongoing activities. The event will give you a chance to discuss, network and exchange with colleagues from both ESA and industry.
3rd ScyLight Workshop on Optical Communication 2019 in Bucharest, Romania
The event will consist of pitch talks, general and specialized presentations delivered by industry and ESA experts, highlighting the progress and the achievements made within the optical communications community. Considering the current global Covid-19 situation, the event will be online.
The 2021 event will once again be a unique opportunity to:
- Take part in a networking forum with industrial partners across Europe and Canada
- Explore and invite for cooperation opportunities
- Inform on the latest relevant technology and product developments
- Learn of the achievements of the ESA ARTES ScyLight programme and the optical community in general
- Get the latest information on ESAs plans on Optical Communications
- Disseminate the results from recently completed technology and product developments to a broad and diverse audience
- Meet ScyLight Team members and national delegates

Objectives of the workshop
The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to present and discuss the progress and advances that have been made in the optical communication domain since last year. Similar to a real event the online platform will allow easy ways to interconnect to other participants to establish new cooperation or to extend existing ones. The annual ScyLight Workshop will remain a networking event.
The workshop will be organised in 4 sequential blocks, addressing:
- Optical Communication Technology at System Level
- Future and challenges of Optical Communication Technologies
- Trends and challenges of Intra-Satellite Photonics / Optical Payloads
- Space based Quantum Communication Technologies – today and tomorrow
For each of these topics, interested participants may request the opportunity to either give a presentation or a Pitch Talk.
During registration process, 30 Minute presentations incl. short content descriptions can be proposed. The deadline will be: 17th of May 2021.
Depending on the number of presentation requests received, the proposed timeline in the agenda will be adapted. ESA reserves the right to down select proposed talks.

Online platform
The ScyLight workshop will be hosted on the online platform “Let’s Get Digital”. It is a fully browser-based online tool that does not require any software installation from participants or speakers. To obtain the best experience for this tool it is preferred to make use of Google Chrome. Upon registration, and closer to the date, participants will receive an email with the login credentials to the online platform.
