In recent years, there has been a notable increase in interest in constellation initiatives. These initiatives represent a paradigm shift for the Satellite Communications domain and bring with them a significant number of opportunities and challenges. In particular, the rapid development of Satellite Communications constellations has meant a big increase in the number of space and ground assets, which in turn has created substantial challenges for environmental sustainability.
The 1st ESA Workshop on Sustainable Technologies for Satcom Constellations event will aim to identify the key technologies, concepts and solutions for the design and implementation of Satellite Communications constellations, based on responsible and sustainable values for the use of Space.
The ESA's Directorate of Telecommunications & Integrated Applications (TIA), in collaboration with the ESA's Directorate of Operations (OPS) in charge of ESA's Space Safety Programme, are pleased to invite ESA Member States Entities and Institutions to participate in the 1st ESA Workshop on Sustainable Technologies for Satcom Constellations in support of Telecom Responsible Space and two ESA's accelerators 'Space For a Green Future' and 'Protection of Space Assets'.
The main objectives for this workshop are the following:
- Identification of key technologies, concepts and solutions for the sustainable and responsible use of space, with emphasis in Satcom constellations upstream
- Enlarge the importance of responsible and sustainable practises across space and non-space communities
- Foster discussions between the main players across the Satcom value chain for exploring responsible and sustainable solutions for Satcom constellations, at system and subsystem level
- Pursue Industry collaborations across ESA Member State entities to embrace global adoption of responsible and sustainable Satcom developments
