The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) is the university of applied sciences of the six cantons of Central Switzerland. It encompasses the Schools of Engineering and Architecture, Business, Computer Science and Information Technology, Social Work, Art Film Design, and Music. With more than 8,000 students enrolled in its education programmes and some 12,000 participants in continuing and executing education, almost 350 new research projects launched every year and more than 2,070 employees, it is the largest educational institution in the heart of Switzerland.
The Swiss Space Office SSO of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI is responsible for the preparation and implementation of space policy in Switzerland. Working in cooperation with other federal departments and offices, it coordinates the activities carried out in Switzerland for the exploration and use of outer space. As most of the research and development takes place within the framework of the European Space Agency’s activities and programmes, the SSO represents Swiss interests at ESA and serves as a point of contact for space related questions from scientific institutions as well as industry. Thanks to its innovative strength and precision technology, Switzerland has gained a solid and acknowledged position in strategically significant fields both within Europe and across the globe.
Biotesc is the Swiss User Operations and Support Center of the European Space Agency (ESA). Biotesc is responsible for planning and implementing experiments and educational payloads on the International Space Station (ISS). Before new experiment or payload is launched, Biotesc develops procedures and supports astronaut training. During the execution on the ISS, Biotesc supports astronauts and commands equipment from the control room.Biotesc is part of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) and is located in Hergiswil.
