Info
This authentic home brewery in the center of Bruges is a family business with a tradition of six generations of brewers since 1856. The Bruges city beer, Brugse Zot, is brewed here: a spicy top-fermented beer based on malt, hops and special yeast. In 2016, a unique 3 km long underground beer pipeline was built that connects the brewery with its bottling plant outside the city center.
An exclusive tour is offered to HiSST conference participants, offering them the opportunity to have a look behind the scenes of this family business. Belgian beer is a UNESCO World Heritage product, and not only is it a treat for the taste buds, it also has a fascinating history and brewing process behind it. The experienced tour guides will let you in on the secrets of malt and hop and give you an explanation about its own beers (Brugse Zot, Straffe Hendrik and Blanche de Bruges). The tour will also take you to the brewer roof top from which provides a spectacular view of Bruges. After hitting a few kettles and barrels on the way down, one will be rewarded with an unfiltered Brugse Zot Blond.
Note: there are a total of 220 steps during the tour through the brewery. These steps are sometimes steep, so please provide appropriate footwear.
