Resilient Gnss challenge

ESA is glad to announce that in the context of the NAVITEC 2024 conference, a new satellite navigation challenge will be organised focusing on GNSS resilient techniques, inviting all registered participants to join this competition.

If you want to learn more about the event and competition guidelines, we invite you to participate in our upcoming webinar, on the 15th of October

The NAVITEC 2024 is an unparalleled opportunity for individuals passionate with space and terrestrial satellite navigation technology to engage in a hands-on, practical challenge. The event is designed to engage participants in the critical aspects of satellite navigation systems, reflecting real-world satellite navigation challenges (jamming and spoofing attacks), providing a profound learning and competitive environment.  It offers a platform for skill enhancement, and demonstration of expertise in a specialized and rapidly advancing field.  It bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands on experience in the realm of navigation systems.

The heart of the challenge is about receiver techniques able to increase the resilience against radiofrequency threats, providing a tangible, practical experience of sophisticated interference attacks.

Participants will be granted access to recorded datasets from real on-field test campaigns. The main objective will be to process the data to increase the PNT availability and to produce the most accurate PNT data.

Required Competencies

Participants are expected to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge in satellite navigation systems and the ability to apply anti interference / spoofing methods. The ability to select and adapt GNSS resilient techniques is crucial as well as SW skills in MATLAB and Python are considered assets.

Effective teamwork and collaboration skills are crucial for success in this challenge, emphasizing the importance of communication and joint problem-solving.

Event Structure and Dates

The Resilient GNSS Challenge will be kicked off before the conference and the final ceremony will take place during the closing speech of the NAVITEC 2024 conference.

To register to the event, the leader of each team is asked to send an email to ESAConferenceBureau@atpi.com by 27th of October at the latest, including:

• The full names of all team members,

• Their nationalities

• Their CV

To participate to the event, at least one member of the team SHALL be already registered for the conference.

Teams must consist of up to 4 participants (including the team leaders).

The competition will take place off-line (i.e. each team will receive and address the challenges separately) between the 1st of November to the 29th of November. The solutions to the challenges will need to be delivered by the team leader before 29th of November, at 12:00 Central European time. No extension will be given.

Additional information, about the qualification challenges and how the solutions will be delivered, will be also provided to the team leaders via email after the registration.

On the 1st of November, recorded datasets will be made available. The winner will be the team that will provide the most accurate position solution. The position solution shall be sent in the required format via email to ESAConferenceBureau@atpi.com by 29th of November, at 00:00 Central European time at the latest.

The winner team will be proclaimed at the end of the conference, during the closing session on the 13th of December. They will be rewarded with a Special prize and an Award Certificate.

The winner team will have the possibility to present their own solution and how they have achieved the best result during the session.

Further Information

Further information for the event will be published at this website in due course, and directly by email to the team leaders.
