Scientific Topics

  • Astrophysics, Astronomy and Cosmology: This topic addresses the scientific missions in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology recently achieved and the related results, or new missions in progress of conception or development, that use balloons or sounding rockets or related research.

  • Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry: This topic concentrates on observation by in-situ (e.g. sounding rockets, balloons) and remote sensing (e.g. radar, lidar, satellites) instruments as well as related modeling relevant for improving our understanding of fundamental physical and chemical processes in the middle atmosphere, more precisely in the stratosphere, mesosphere and lower thermosphere.

  • Ionosphere and Magnetosphere: Solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere coupling; reconnection, acceleration, heating, waves, instabilities, turbulence, irregularities, radio scintillations; fundamental physics and space-weather applications.

  • Life and Physical Sciences and Applications in space: The session on “ Life and Physical Sciences” provide an ideal setting for researcher who would like to present their latest scientific achievements originating from sounding rocket flights, stratospheric balloon missions or from related experimental platforms. There are no particular restrictions on the topic. They only have to fall under either life or physical science and are taking advantage of the environmental conditions the experimental platforms mentioned are offering.
