IEEE EDS Student Fee Grants for participation to IVEC 2021 and Minicourse on Vacuum Electronics

On a competitive basis, IEEE Electron Device Society is glad to offer 20 student grants for covering the registration fee of the virtual IVEC 2021 (€75) and of the Pre-Conference Minicourse on Vacuum Electronics (€75) for a total of €150.
These grants also wish to promote diversity among the conference attendees and the introduction to vacuum electronics. Applications from women and minorities and beginning graduate students and first time IVEC attendees are particularly welcome. No more than one student per institution will be supported. No postdocs, faculty, or other senior research personnel may be supported by the grant.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY
  • These student fee grants are sponsored by the IEEE Electron Devices Society.
  • Each applicant must be a student registered toward a Bachelor, Masters, or Ph.D. degree in physics, engineering or related field in a college or university when submitting the application.
  • This grant particularly encourages women, minorities, beginning graduate students, and first time IVEC attendees to apply.
  • Each applicant must not be corresponding author or presenter of accepted papers or posters at IVEC 2021.
HOW TO APPLY FOR IEEE EDS STUDENT GRANT

An application for the grant should be submitted electronically by email to the IEEE EDS Grant Chair Claudio Paoloni c.paoloni@lancaster.ac.uk and should include the following materials:

1. A letter from the student. The letter, max 500 words, should include the following information. 
  • The applicant’s study level (undergraduate or graduate). 
  • Whether the student is a first-time attendee.
  • A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date; students should demonstrate a serious interest in networking.
  • A description of areas reflected in the IVEC 2021 program that would impact the student’s research.
  • A statement about why the conference attendance is important to the student.
2.  A brief recommendation letter from the student’s advisor including the following. 
  • Confirmation that student is a bona fide Ph.D. or M.S. candidate in good academic standing at the given institution (Yes/No).
  • The suitability of the IVEC 2021 program material to the student’s research area (Yes/ No).
  • Ways this particular student would benefit from attendance at the conference (max 100 words).
Applicants should create their application as a single PDF file, following the format described above and then submit the application.

When submitting the application, please state “EDS IVEC2021 Fee Grant Application” in the email subject line.

Applicants will be notified of the decision by email. Successful applicants will be notified with further instructions.

The EDS IVEC 2021 Fee Grant selection committee reserves the right to make the final decision regarding all applications.
