This paper describes CNES activities around a new concept of electronic video chain for high resolution and low cost optical Earth Observation Satellites. This concept is based on the use of COTS CMOS sensors and a Xilinx Ultrascale FPGA. A breadboard of the electronic video chain, called ‘DARWIN-CU’, is realized to proof the concept and achieve TRL 5. The overal system design is presented and discussed.
