Young Space Optics Professionals

In ICSO 2022 we plan to initiate a number of actions dedicated to younger colleagues joining the field of Space Optics. The initiative stems from the Young Space Optical Professionals - YSOP Linkedin group https://www.linkedin.com/groups/9093885/ formed during the last International School on Space Optics www.isso2021.org.

Add here the upper part of the Linked In page up to “request to join” – see at the end of the file.

The idea is to provide younger colleagues with an opportunity to discuss everything they want with some of our colleagues that have decades of experience.

  • Why do we bother with Optics in Space?
  • Why do we need Quantum Technology in Space Optics?
  • What does it look like to work for Space Optics in industry, academia, or government/international Agency?
  • How do you structure and build a professional path in Space Optics?
  • How do you turn your innovative ideas into a successful start-up in Space Optics?

We have invited Mr. Sachidananda Babu, who is the technology validation program manager in Earth Science Technology Office under Earth Science Division at NASA. He has been working at NASA for more than 34 years, prior that he worked at Intel submicron R&D and TIFR, India. While at NASA he initially worked on Focal Plane Technologies for many space flight projects like Cassini, Gravity Probe B, Spitzer, SWIFT, SOHO, Landsat, JWST, JPSS, and others. For the last 9 years he has been managing the technology validation program at NASA Earth Science Technology Office. He is recipient of many NASA group and personal awards including “NASA Exceptional Service Medal”.

Our second invited speaker is Dr. Martin Bohmann, an expert in Qunatum Optics & Quantum communication, who recently joined qtlabs, a start-up company founded by Rupert Ursin. Martin has many years of academic experience Quantum Science & Technology. He comes from IQOQI Vienna, a noble prize awarding institute!

This will be a great opportunity for younger colleagues to ask any question they have either about Quantum optics, or the transition from academy to industry in space optics. This session will have its unique flavor, which is the discussion about the 2022 noble prize in Physics, awarded to Anton Zeilinger for his experiments with entangled photons. This is your chance to share any thoughts and ask any questions you want at practical and philosophical level! So, join us in these discussions in a relaxed environment during the conference days

And on the Friday afternoon of the conference join us again for a guided tour and chill out in the old town of Dubrovnik!

We also welcome ideas on relevant actions so feel free to contact the Conference Bureau.

Lastly, notice that during the conference the ISSO-2023 will be presented. Applications will be accepted as of 1 November 2022. So, if you are interested, that will be the place to ask any questions and get more information.

Stay tuned for updates!
