Plenary Speakers

Professor Joan Serra-Sagristà

Talk Title:
"Recent contributions from UAB-GICI research group to remote sensing data compression: CCSDS standards, compact data structures, point-cloud geometry, astronomical data, and deep learning techniques".

Talk Description:
This talk will survey several recent proposals for compressing remote sensing data, including our participation in the CCSDS Working Group on Data Compression, helping define and develop several standards; compact data structures, which allow accessing the data in the compressed domain without needing to decompress it; point-cloud geometry compression, which achieve promising results when compared to current JPEG standard; astronomical data compression, which is a growing demand due to the increasing size of the acquired volumes; and deep learning techniques, which are lately receiving much attention, highlighting their challenges and limitations.
