ESA ScyLight

The Optical and Quantum Communications – ScyLight is an ESA strategic programme line dedicated to optical communications, photonics and quantum communication. Forming part of the Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES), the programme that supports technology developments in satellite communications, seeking to keep European and Canadian industry at the leading edge of the global market.  The ScyLight programme aims to address the development, demonstration and utilisation of innovative optical and quantum technologies for satellite communication. By supporting industry to develop and extend its manufacturing capabilities, it helps prepare stakeholders to seize related market opportunities.

Spanish Space Agency (AEE)

The Spanish Space Agency (AEE) is proud to co-organise the ScyLight Conference, a pivotal event for industry leaders and experts in optical and quantum communication technologies. As the national agency, our mandate is to lead and coordinate Spanish space policy, driving excellence in research, technological and industrial development, and innovation. ScyLight provides a critical platform for achieving one of our core goals: to establish Spain as a European and international leader in the sector, and actively boost the national space industrial fabric.

Our involvement as co-hosts in the ScyLight Conference confirms the priority we place on developing the full value chain of the space sector, from upstream design and manufacturing to downstream services and applications. The AEE ensures the coherent coordination of national efforts with the European Space Agency (ESA), guaranteeing that Spanish stakeholder interests are strongly represented. This event enables us to reinforce public-private partnerships and stimulate investment in disruptive technologies such as optical and quantum communications, firmly positioning Spain as a strategic and dynamic hub for the future of satellite telecommunications.

Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC)

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) is a world-leading research centre dedicated to the study of the universe, based in the Canary Islands, Spain. Established in 1975, the IAC operates two of the most important astronomical observatories in the Northern Hemisphere: the Observatorio del Teide on Tenerife and the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos on La Palma.

The institute conducts cutting-edge research in astrophysics, cosmology, solar physics, and instrumentation, playing a key role in major international collaborations. Its strategic geographic location—characterized by exceptionally clear skies and minimal light pollution—makes it an ideal site for advanced optical and infrared observations.

For a conference on optical communications, the IAC is particularly relevant due to its expertise in high-precision optical systems, atmospheric propagation studies, and adaptive optics technologies. These areas are critical for improving free-space optical communication, laser transmission, and signal integrity through turbulent media.

The IAC also maintains strong partnerships with global research institutions and industry, fostering innovation at the intersection of astronomy and optical engineering. Its infrastructure, technical know-how, and interdisciplinary approach position it as a valuable contributor to advancements in optical communication technologies.
